Embedding S into R with given integral Gauss curvature and optimal mass transport on S

In [3] A.D. Aleksandrov raised a general question of finding variational statements and proofs of existence of polytopes with given geometric data. The first goal of this paper is to give a variational solution to the problem of existence and uniqueness of a closed convex hypersurface in Euclidean space with prescribed integral Gauss curvature. Our solution includes the case of a convex polytop...

Motion of Hypersurfaces by Gauss Curvature

We consider n-dimensional convex Euclidean hypersurfaces moving with normal velocity proportional to a positive power α of the Gauss curvature. We prove that hypersurfaces contract to points in finite time, and for α ∈ (1/(n + 2], 1/n] we also prove that in the limit the solutions evolve purely by homothetic contraction to the final point. We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions for non-...

Integral Geometry and the Gauss-bonnet Theorem in Constant Curvature Spaces

We give an integral-geometric proof of the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for hypersurfaces in constant curvature spaces. As a tool, we obtain variation formulas in integral geometry with interest in its own.

Flow by Powers of the Gauss Curvature

We prove that convex hypersurfaces in Rn+1 contracting under the flow by any power α > 1 n+2 of the Gauss curvature converge (after rescaling to fixed volume) to a limit which is a smooth, uniformly convex self-similar contracting solution of the flow. Under additional central symmetry of the initial body we prove that the limit is the round sphere.

Gauss Maps of the Mean Curvature Flow

Let F : Σ n × [0, T) → R n+m be a family of compact immersed submanifolds moving by their mean curvature vectors. We show the Gauss maps γ : (Σ n , g t) → G(n, m) form a harmonic heat flow with respect to the time-dependent induced metric g t. This provides a more systematic approach to investigating higher codimension mean curvature flows. A direct consequence is any convex function on G(n, m)...
